Featuring
Yodfat Harel Buchris
Managing Director of Blumberg Capital

Yodfat is a Managing Director of Blumberg Capital, an investor in tech companies across various sectors for many years, and a director in private and public companies. She currently serves as a director at Bank Discount, Yeda Research and Development Company of the Weizmann Institute, and portfolio companies on behalf of Blumberg Capital. Yodfat has navigated the complexities of the business world while embracing the values instilled in her from a young age. She was born to a family of hardworking patriots, some of them Holocaust survivors, and learned the importance of perseverance and fighting for what she believes in. Her upbringing emphasized the principles of listening and working for the greater good, shaping her into the woman she is today.

Yodfat’s grandmother, Rachel Harel, played a significant role in her life and the lives of many others, among other things bringing the Montessori method to Israel, and instilling a profound love for her grandchildren’s homeland. Her grandmother’s words, “We only have one country, and no one leaves from here,” echo in Yodfat, reinforcing the importance of unity and resilience in the face of adversity, especially in our times since the 10/7 event. Through her grandmother’s teachings, Yodfat learned the value of perseverance and the power that comes from a deep connection to one’s roots.

Yodfat’s military service in the navy during the Gulf War taught her about responsibility and leadership at a young age. Afterwards, she flew to Japan and upon returning home joined her father’s business ventures, with a suitcase full of experience from the Japanese market. Her time in Japan taught her patience, honesty and the importance of diversity in business.

Yodfat’s journey has led her to various roles, she emphasizes the importance of creating opportunities and learning from every experience. Her involvement in public companies reflects her desire to interact with interesting people and make a positive impact. Her approach to investing puts emphasis on trust and collaboration with entrepreneurs, she believes successful entrepreneurs excel in compelling stories and transparency about their technology.

Yodfat proudly says “I’ve achieved it all"

and as a mother myself- that moves me. In the past, this notion wasn’t emphasized enough - that it’s possible to successfully navigate between raising kids, advancing your career, pursuing dreams, contributing and making a meaningful impact. All while staying true to ourselves. As we evolve over the years, our perspectives change. I encourage reflecting on our growth trajectory: what we absorbed in each decade, how our inner compass shifted, and how our priorities changed. It’s like discovering a treasure of choices and insights - guiding us towards the kind of person we aspire to be, both personally and professionally.

Yodfat aptly compares life to a layered cake, adding her insight that she views the journey of life as a series of strata, with a cherry on each, gradually built upon each other.

Yet with responsibility come challenges. Yodfat often identifies mistakes early on with entrepreneurs, some of which she chooses to let them cope with on their own and others to navigate them through. For example, she highlights the tendency of entrepreneurs to surround themselves with like-minded people - and this is a critical mistake. This lack of diversity and inclusion hampers startups from realizing their full potential. Yodfat recognizes some entrepreneurs fail to learn from their mistakes, while others thrive by embracing mistakes as opportunities for growth.

Yodfat’s life took an unexpected turn when her husband, Pinchas Buchris, suffered a severe injury from a home accident. The event forced her to confront the fragility of life and navigate the challenges of rehabilitation and recovery. With the support of her children, friends and community, Yodfat found the strength to persist, emerging from the experience with a renewed sense of purpose and resilience.

Yodfat’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience, determination and self-discovery. Through the highs and lows of life, she remains steadfast in striving for excellence, finding strength in adversity, and emerging stronger and more resilient with every challenge.
